You Need a Friend Part II

Last week we talked about finding a writing buddy or a writers group. If you join an existing group you pretty much need to follow their established protocol, but if you are starting from scratch you can make your own rules. Here are some suggestions:

• If you can meet in person, that’s a great chance to get out of your solitary confinement with your computer.
• It’s a good idea to set a schedule for your meeting and make sure each writer’s work gets equal time.
• Some writers like to read their own work aloud others prefer to have someone else read, so they can just listen to the flow. It’s up to you.
• Be truthful and diplomatic with your feedback. Don’t let your buddy embarrass himself or herself by putting a poorly written product out into the world, but be nice. If something needs improvement see if you can suggest a solution rather than just pointing out flaws.

If you have questions about getting feedback from other writers or would like to get feedback from me, please email me at  Enjoy every step of your writing journey.
