Happy Moms Rock the World

I have started working on my next book, Happy Moms Rock the World. Happy Moms from all over the country are responding to my inquiries on what makes them happy. The very early results are in and and I see a couple of trends.

Lots of moms find happiness in their spiritual practices. Reading scripture, prayer and meditation are high on their lists. Here is what a few of the moms said:

Natalie Rearden: Every day I ask God to help me be patient and be the best mom that I can be to my girls.

Tamara O’Brien I am a happy mom! I have 4 kids: Ages, 7, 5, 4 and 8 months. What makes me happy? My Bible study ladies and my daily devotionals. Keeping myself centered is what creates happiness. (This answer also points out the benefit of having good relationships in your life.)

Many moms report that exercise makes them happy.

Stephanie Anderson One thing that makes me a happy mom is my new gym habit!! I got a membership to the local YMCA that offers free childcare. (I know from experience that exercise is a sure fire mood lifter, but I still have to talk myself into doing it.)

Nicole McKnight weighed in on both devotions and exercising.
My daily devotional book that I read. I always take time when the kids take a nap to rest. When it is a stressful day we turn the radio up and dance in the kitchen. The kiddos love to dance!

Me time was another important factor for moms of young children.

Rosene Martin: I’m a SAHM, but have a small craft business that I work on at home. My children are 6, 3, and 1. I am happy; contented. 🙂 I would say to every mom to take some ‘me’ time! I have a soak in the tub with a good book every night while hubby takes care of the children. That can make a difference in my outlook on life till I come back out!

We are just beginning to scratch the surface on what practices help moms to stay positive and happy. I am also hearing from moms who are struggling and hope to learn what helps to make them feel better. I also plan to interview moms who can share wisdom on balancing career and personal life and on sharing happiness with teenagers and adult children. If you would like to share your thoughts, leave a comment and I will contact you.
